- Name: John Bamford
- AKA: Bambam
- Riding Style: Avoiding the wind!
- Likes: Hills, Italian Food, the odd Real Ale and the banter on the café run.
- Pet Hates: Getting beat at various board games by my daughter. Long stopped letting her win, and now I can’t win!!
- Favourite quote: “Success is a little like wrestling a gorilla. You don’t quit when you’re tired. You quit when the gorilla is tired.”
John started riding about 8 years ago, having taken part in a charity triathlon event which necessitated the purchase of his first road bike. Prior to that his background was in running where he’d competed around the country in various disciplines.
He has taken part in several etape du tours both in the Alps and Pyrenees and a number of years ago joined his local club, Lancashire Road Club. This wetted his appetite for racing and soon after John entered his first road race, achieving enough top ten finishes during the season to pick up his 3rd category licence.
In 2013 John achieved his first road race win, managing to get in a break of 4 riders on the rolling Saighton circuit near Chester, eventually attacking at the bottom of the climb to the finish and managing to hold off the pursuing breakaway riders by half a bike length.
This year, John is hoping to move up to 2nd category and grab another victory or two along the way.
